How Thick of a Foam pad?
So once you have decided on a brand of foam mattress pad to purchase, the next question is, how big should the mattress topper be? Foam mattress pads come in several different thicknesses which vary from 1 inch up to 4 inches, and even thicker, and everything in between.
Two inch thick foam mattress pads seem to be the most commonly used. It’s kind of that medium that benefits most people, and is pretty affordable at the same time. Just like with most anything, the bigger you go the more expensive it usually is. One inch being usually to thin, and 4 inches and up usually being too thick. The 2 inch pad will offer better sleep with less aches and pains.
If you’re looking for something a little bit more luxurious the 3 foam mattress pad would be the way to go. These pads offer more cushioning yet at the same time they are deeper so you sink in further, losing a little bit of support on your back. The price of a 3 inch foam mattress compared to a 2 inch foam mattress is quite a bit more expensive. Prices however are coming down over the years and you can yet expect to pay less in the coming years.
Another reason that you might select a 3 inch memory foam pad over a 2 inch memory foam pad is if you are a little heavier. If you’re a woman over 170 pounds or a man over hundred and 90 pounds and are looking for a softer more luxurious feel, the 3 inch foam mattress pad would be the way to go for you. 4 inches and up seems to be a little bit of an overkill, purchasing a foam pad this thick could almost just be used as a guest bed that can be rolled on the floor when you have company over, then rolled up and stuck in a closet after they leave. Well that’s just my opinion anyways.
